Chicopee, Mass – The Lasell University men's soccer team fell in their season and conference opening game against the Elms College Blazers at Timothy J. Leary Field. The Lasers fall to 0-1 and 0-1 in the GNAC while Elms improves to 2-0 and 1-0 in the GNAC.
Elms scored the only goal of the first half in the 41st minute on a goal by junior Justin Szwajkowski with the assist coming from sophomore Devon Polletta.
Lasell answered for the first goal of the second half as freshman Dan Faynstein (Needham, Mass.) scored his first career goal. With two minutes left in the 90 Elms found the winner off the foot of sophomore Musa Jiana (Brikama, Gambia).
The Blazers outshot the Lasers 15 to 9 and won the corner battle five to two. Lasell senior goalie Zack Laware (Wilbraham, Mass.) made seven saves on the day.
The Lasers will be back in action Sunday September 5th at 12:00 p.m. when they take on Suffolk College in a non-conference matchup. The Blazers will take on Dean College for their next matchup on Wednesday.
