Men's Soccer Picked Second in GNAC Preseason Coaches Poll
The Lasell College men's soccer team was ranked second by the conference's coaches in the 2013 preseason poll.
NEWTON, MASS. (8/28/13) - THe Lasell College men's soccer team was picked second by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference coaches in the league's preseason poll. Lasell finished the 2012 season with a 15-4-1 record overall and a 9-1 record in GNAC matches, earning the top seed in the conference tournament. The Lasers fell to Norwich University in the semifinals, and earned a bid to the ECAC New England tournament.
Lasell received 87 points and three first place votes, finishing behind the 2013 GNAC tournament champion Albertus Magnus College who grabbed 88 points and five first place votes. Norwich University who fell to Albertus on penalties in the conference championship game tallied 85 points and the lone remaining first place vote.
Lasell will return 20 members of their 2012 squad, and will feature a veteran side for the 2013 season. The Lasers roster is comprised of 17 juniors and seniors, as well as seven sophomores who all saw time in their first year with the program.
Lasell returns five players who earned spot on the GNAC All-Conference teams in 2012, including the reigning GNAC Offensive Player of the Year Mike Skelton. Co-captain Nery Guerra joined Skelton on the conference's First Team a year ago, while seniors Sokol Bako and Cedric Dybaud were joined by joined by sophomore goalkeeper Miguel Colmenares on the GNAC's Third Team.
Lasell's 2013 schedule opens with their Kick-Off Tournament on August 31st and September 1st tha includes Newbury College, Fitchburg State and UMass-Boston. The rest of their non-conference slate will test Lasell as they visit UAA foe Brandeis University and travel to Regis College and Clark University as well as hosting Gordon College, Westfield State and wrapping up the regular season with Babson College.
