Men's Soccer Advances to GNAC Semifinals with 1-0 Defeat over Mount Ida

Newton, Mass. (10/27/12) – The Lasell College men's soccer team snapped a two game losing skid,  by defeating the Mount Ida Mustangs in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Quarterfinals by a score of 1-0. The win makes Lasell 15-3 on the season, while Mount Ida falls 6-11-1 overall

The match was a back and forth affair, and remained scoreless until the 42nd minute when junior co-captain Nery Guerra (Guatemala City, Guatemala) broke the scoreless deadlock and put Lasell on top 1-0 heading into the intermission.

Both teams saw quality goalkeeping limit the few quality scoring chances for either side. Lasell's Miguel Colmenares made a pair of saves in each half to help his side remain unscathed. Matt Pils was equally impressive, making four saves in the second half to keep his team within striking distance.

Lasell held a slight 14-10 edge in shots and corner kicks at 5-3.

Lasell will move on to take on Norwich University on Tuesday afternoon in the GNAC Semifinals, the Cadets needed penalties to get the leg up on Johnson and Wales, and earn the right to face the top-seeded Lasers.
