Newton, Mass (10/24/12) - The Lasell College men's soccer team dropped it's regular season finale, 2-0 on the road at Westfield State. The loss leaves the Lasers at 14-3 on the season as they head into the Great Northeast Athletic Conference tournament as the top overall seed. Westfield State improved to 6-9-1 on the season with the victory.
Lasell was outshot 14-11 on the evening in the closely contested affair, and the hosts held a 3-1 advantage in corners. Aren Moorman (Somerset, N.J.) made four saves in the match while taking the loss and dropping his record to 2-1 on the season.
Kyle Bengle (West Springfield, Mass.) scored the game-winning goal in the 66th minute on a breakaway, with senior Jared Spicer (Carver, Mass.) delivering the assist. Exactly a minute later, Westfield added an insurance goal when junior Matt O'Neill (Southwick, Mass.) scored on a header from close range with an assist by Bengle.
Lasell will host cross-town foe Mount Ida on Saturday October 27th at 1 p.m. at Taylor Field as they look to move into the GNAC semifinals.
