NEWTON, MA- The Lasell College men's soccer team hosted three young men from Project GOAL during the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Tournament quarter finals today on Taylor Field. Project GOAL (Greater Opportunity for Athletes to Learn) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to facilitate the development of Rhode Island's disadvantaged youth through educational and soccer related programs.
Lasell's head coach Giovanni Pacini and assistant coach Ryan Michelangelo arranged for William Benitez, Victor Cano, and Gabriel Gomez to visit Lasell as a educational and motivational experience integrating them into all aspects of the men's soccer program to get a feel for the college environment.
Benitez and Cano hail from Pawtucket, Rhode Island while Gomez is a native of Central Falls, Rhode Island. The three young men met with the coaches, players and administrators prior to the match, were privy to Lasell's pre-game and halftime meetings, and sat with the players on the bench during the thrilling GNAC tournament tussle.
Ultimately, the no. 1 seeded Lasers defeated no. 8 Johnson & Wales University, 2-1, and will advance to the GNAC semi-finals on Tuesday, November 2nd, at 2:30 p.m. on Taylor Field.
