West Hartford, CT- Lasell couldn't slow down a second-quarter surge from Saint Joseph (Conn.), falling 13–5 on the road in GNAC action Wednesday afternoon.
The Lasers got off to a strong start, answering an early USJ goal with back-to-back scores from Ryan Haden and Nate Campbell to take a 2–1 lead after the opening quarter. Saint Joseph seized control in the second, erupting for five unanswered goals to flip the game and take a 6–2 advantage into halftime.
Lasell showed signs of life coming out of the break, opening the third quarter with goals from Colin LeBaron and Campbell to cut the deficit to 6–4. After trading goals, Haden added his second of the day on a man-up opportunity to make it 8–5, but that would be as close as the Lasers would get. USJ responded with five straight goals spanning the third and fourth quarters to pull away and secure the conference victory.
Haden and Campbell each finished with two goals to lead the Lasers offensively, while Jason Martin dished out three assists. LeBaron added a goal and an assist, and Sam Guilmette chipped in an assist as well. Matthew Carbone was strong at the faceoff X, winning 14 of 20 draws and collecting a game-high 11 ground balls. Defensively, Cameron Soave made five saves in net for Lasell, but the Lasers were unable to contain a balanced USJ attack led by Nick Pestrichello's six goals.
Up Next: Lasell will look to regroup as it continues conference play this Saturday against Rivier University.
