MBB: Marcus Lewis, Esmer Madesko, & Gabe Qua Earn GNAC Conference Honors
Newton, MA — The GNAC Conference released its end-of-year basketball awards on Tuesday, following the conclusion of the postseason tournament. Three players from the Lasell University men's basketball team were recognized with various awards.
Senior Marcus Lewis, who was second for the Lasers in scoring (16.1 PPG) and first in rebounding (7.3 RPG) claimed Second-Team All-Conference honors for the second consecutive year. Lewis had a great senior season for the Lasers, getting to the 1,000 point mark and having seven double-doubles across 28 games. He posted a season-high 33 points at New England College on January 18th, marking the highest point total for any Laser on the season.
Freshman Esmer Madesko throughout the year grabbed four GNAC Rookie of the Week honors and led the Lasers in scoring (16.6 PPG), was second in assists (4.6 APG), and third in rebounding (4.9 RPG). Madesko made a very compelling case to take home Rookie of the Year honors but still made the Second-Team All-Conference along with his teammate Lewis. Madesko had eleven 20+ game performances on the season, including one stretch of four games from Jan. 21st vs Dean to Feb. 1st vs Regis where he had 20+ in all four contests and averaged 25.2 PPG over that span.
Senior Gabe Qua was selected to the GNAC's All-Sportsmanship Team which is given to those who best exemplify the conference's sportsmanship values.
