NEWTON, Mass. (12/5/16) -- Senior guard Armin Omanovic (Wilkesboro, N.C.) of the Lasell College men's basketball team was named Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player of the Week for the second time in the season's first three weeks, as announced by the conference office Monday.
Omanovic helped the Lasers to three wins last week, including winning decisions over Johnson & Wales and Emmanuel in their first two GNAC games. His 26.5 points per game rank seventh nationally, but leads the conference and all New England players in NCAA Division III. Omanovic has been Lasell's top scorer in all six games this season, posting at least 21 points in each.
He surpassed the 30-point mark for the second straight game and the fifth time in his career in last Tuesday's GNAC opener, scoring 31 points on 9-of-18 shooting in an 86-58 win over JWU.
Omanovic knocked down three, three-pointers against the Wildcats, then did the same en route to a 27-point night while shooting 7-of-15 from the field and knocking down ten more free throws in Thursday's 67-53 victory over non-conference foe Worcester State. He played all 40 minutes in that contest, but scored 15 of his 27 points in the second half.
In a 77-67 win over Emmanuel, Omanovic scored 22 points and shot 7-of-15, again coming up big late in the game with 15 second-half points.
The Lasers play three games in four days this week, beginning with a short road trip to MIT for a non-conference test tonight at 7:00 p.m. Lasell hits the road for a GNAC game at St. Joseph's College of Maine on Tuesday, December 6 before returning home to face No. 13 nationally-ranked Keene State two nights later.
