Omanovic Named First 2016-17 GNAC Player of the Week
Senior guard Armin Omanovic (Wilkesboro, N.C.) of the Lasell College men’s basketball team was named Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player of the Week, as announced Monday morning by the conference office.
NEWTON, Mass. (11/21/16) -- Senior guard Armin Omanovic (Wilkesboro, N.C.) of the Lasell College men's basketball team was named Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player of the Week, as announced Monday morning by the conference office.
Omanovic earned the season's first weekly honor and the third of his career after pacing the Lasers through their first three games. He leads the GNAC with 26.3 points per game.
An All-GNAC First Team selection last season, Omanovic surpassed the 30-point mark for the fourth time in his career in Saturday's 113-103 loss to Nichols, scoring 36 points on 11-of-21 shooting and 4-of-10 from three-point range.
He was also Lasell's leading scorer in the Lasers' 79-75, season-opening win over Regis last Tuesday, posting 22 points while shooting 8-of-15 from the field and 3-of-5 from three. Two nights later at No. 3 nationally-ranked Babson, Omanovic scored 21 points on six field goals and eight (of nine) free throws.
Omanovic is tied for second in the GNAC with 8.3 field goals made per game, while his 7.0 free throws made per contest are tied for the league lead.
Omanovic and the Lasers are next in action Tuesday, November 29 when Johnson & Wales visits Newton for the GNAC opener. Tip off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
