Men's Hoops Falls at #17 Albertus Magnus
New Haven, Conn. (2/11/14) – The Lasell College men's basketball team suffered a 92-61 defeat at #17 Albertus Magnus College in great Northeast Athletic Conference action. The Lasers slipped to 12-9 on the season and 9-5 in league play while the Falcons improved to 20-2 on the season while improving to 14-1 in conference games.
Clyde Niba (Atlanta, Ga.) posted his sixth double-double in the last seven games for Lasell with 18 points and 10 rebounds but he was the lone Lasers player in double figures as the visitors struggled to find the range from the field all night. Lasell shot 27.5% from the floor and 18.8% from three point land in the loss while shooting a season-low 548% from the free throw line, converting 17-31 attempts from the line.
Victor Ljluldjuraj put together a complete performance for Albertus Magnus, recording a double-double with 18 points and 18 rebounds while adding 7 blocked shots and four assists. Darius Watson scored a game-high 21 points for the Falcons, who got 10 points and eight rebounds from Lemar Larsen and 13 points off the bench from Kyle Wiggins.
Albertus Magnus opened the game with a 15-1 run behind eight points from Ljuldjuraj and five Watson to take a lead in the opening five minutes of play. Lasell closed the margin to 20-15 behind four three pointers in a three and a half minute span but the Falcons answered with a 12-0 run to go back in front 32-15 with just over nine minutes left in the half. The Lasers were never closer than 15 the rest of the way as Albertus earned the victory comfortably.
Lasell will continue their three game road swing with a visit to Suffolk University on Thursday February 13th at 7:30 p.m. before heading to Anna Maria on Saturday February 15th at 3:00 p.m.
