Niba Named GNAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week
NEWTON, Mass. (2/3/14) - Lasell College sophomore men's basketball player Clyde Niba (Atlanta, Ga.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Player of the Week for his play in a pair of Lasell victories against Norwich and Emmanuel. Niba helped the Lasers to a pair of GNAC road wins this week, scoring 26 points and grabbing 16 rebounds in a road win at Norwich. The sophomore forward then followed up that performance with a 21 point, 13 rebound effort against Emmanuel. Niba shot nearly 60 percent form the floor for the week while playing all 40 minutes in both contests.
The sophomore is third in the GNAC in scoring, averaging 19.2 points per game while leading the league in rebounding at 11.1 rebounds per game and boasting a league-best 50% shooting percentage from three point land.
Lasell is 10-7 overall and 7-4 in the GNAC and they currently occupy fourth place in the standings. The Lasers have a big week coming up as they host defending national champion Amherst on Tuesday February 4th at 8:00 p.m. in non-conference action before returning to GNAC play with a pair of key contests, at Rivier on Thursday Feb. 6th and at home on Saturday Feb. 8th against Suffolk University.
