Men's Basketball Drops 65-61 Result at Johnson and Wales
The Johnson & Wales University men’s basketball team posted a 65-61 victory against Lasell in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at the Wildcat Center on Tuesday evening.
Providence, R.I. (2/12/12) – The Johnson & Wales University men's basketball team posted a 65-61 victory against Lasell in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at the Wildcat Center on Tuesday evening. With the victory Johnson & Wales improves to 12-11 on the season and 11-5 in the GNAC while Lasell falls to 6-18 for the year and 5-12 in league play.
Sophomore Angel Ortiz (East Lyme, Conn.) paced Lasell with 15 points while junior Chris Canino (Hartford, Conn.) tallied a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds in the setback for the Lasers
Senior Dan Barbour (Bridgeport, Conn.) led the way for Johnson & Wales with 25 points while freshman Quarry Greenway (Westchester, N.Y.) added 23 points and seven rebounds in the victory for the Wildcats.
Johnson & Wales led throughout the first half and held a 22-15 lead on a three by Barbour with 4:59 left in the first half. The Wildcats took the 27-25 lead heading into the locker room at halftime.
The Wildcats took their first double digit lead when a jumper by junior Curtis Lucas (Providence, R.I.) made the score 40-30 with 13:09 left on the clock. The Lasers trailed 62-50 before scoring nine straight points to cut their deficit to 62-59 with 25 seconds remaining but were unable to draw any closer ultimately falling 65-61.
The Wildcats will return to action on Thursday, Feb. 14th when they travel to Norwich for a GNAC contest at 7:00 p.m. while Lasell will host Emmanuel on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
