Men Get Back on Winning Track with 84-71 Win Over Norwich

Newton, MA--Senior guard Charles Horton (Detroit, MI) led the Lasers in scoring with 21 points in Tuesday's 84-71 victory over GNAC opponent Norwich University.
Lasell had three other players in double digits including sophomore Javon Williams (Mattapan, MA) who posted a double double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Rookie Lance Theard (New Orleans, LA) poured in 19 points and sophomore Dominik Orlow (Slupsk, Poland) added 15 points and 6 rebounds for the Lasers.
The first five minutes of the game went back and forth, with Norwich clinging to a 12-11 lead at the 14:54 mark. Three-pointers by Justin Harris (New Orleans, LA) and Horton keyed a quick 8-0 spurt, which gave Lasell a 19-12 lead just three minutes later. A triple by Orlow then ignited a 19-5 scoring run which helped the Lasers build their largest lead of the half (44-25) at the 2:05 mark. Lasell led the Cadets 45-29 at the intermission.
A pair of three-pointers by Theard helped Lasell open the second half on a 9-2 run to seize a 54-31 lead at the 16:26 mark. Norwich used a 17-6 run over the next seven minutes to close to within 12 points (60-48) with 9:13 remaining, but Lasell answered with a 15-3 run to build its largest lead of the game (75-51) with 5:19 to play. A final 13-2 run by Norwich whittled the Lasell lead down to 13 at the 2:36 mark. The Lasers did not allow the Cadets any closer, en route to winning their first conference game of the young season.
The Lasers held the Cadets to just 32.3 percent shooting, while they shot 47.5 percent from the floor. Lasell also caused 17 turnovers that led to 32 points.
Norwich was led by sophomore F Antonio Davis (Albany, NY) had a game high 25 points and 14 rebounds. Junior G/F Jaren Jeffcoat (Dallas, TX) added 16 points and 6 rebounds for Norwich (5-2, 1-1 GNAC), who sawtheir four-game win streak snapped.
Lasell, now 2-4 overall and 1-1 in conference play, will host Babson College on Thursday, December 10th at 6:00 p.m. The Lasers will wrap up their first semester schedule against Amherst College at home on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
