Five Lasell College athletes were chosen by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) for weekly honors this week.
Seniors Kristin Coderre (Monson, MA) and Tina Canavan (Stonington, CT) of the women’s lacrosse team were named Goalkeeper and Player of the Week, respectively.
This is Coderre’s (left) fifth time this season, and second
consecutive week, being recognized as the Goalie of the Week.
She was selected after a leading Lasell to a 2-0 week, taking both
wins in GNAC play, and extending a seven game winning streak for
the Lasers. Coderre made 23 total saves over the course
of the week in games against Emerson and Rivier, averaging 11.5
saves per game. The goalie has lost just one game in the past
10 of the season and has a 9-4 record this year.
Canavan (right) was outstanding for Lasell this week on attack. She scored 12 points, notching five goals and adding one assist in each of the two Lasell triumphs, while adding eight total draw controls. Canavan scored the game-winning goal against Emerson on Wednesday, and assisted on the game-winner against Rivier.
Lasell’s men’s lacrosse senior Eric Walsh (Weymouth,
MA) and sophomore Dylan Gray (Bayport, NY) were also awarded
Goalkeeper and Player of the Week honors. Walsh (left) is a
three time honoree this season and was chosen this week after
picking up two wins in GNAC play to keep Lasell on a five game
winning streak and unbeaten in the league (5-0). He made six
saves in 90 minutes in net, earning wins over Becker and Daniel
Webster.
Gray (right) notched a phenomenal 14 points this week in two games to lead the Lasers to an undefeated GNAC slate to date. He scored seven points in each of the two games, scoring four goals and handing out three assists against Becker and then reversing that for three goals and four helpers against Daniel Webster. Gray currently has 37 points this season, scoring 16 goals and assisting on 21.
The final Laser that was recognized this week is Mike Mahoney
(Rockland, MA) who took the baseball Player of the Week honor. Over
the course of a 3-0 week for Lasell, Mahoney produced a .454
batting average, a .636 slugging percentage, and a .416 on base
percentage with five hits, two doubles, one sacrifice fly, three
runs, and five RBI. He went 4-for-5 with three RBI and two
runs against Lesley University and then added one hit, one run, and
two RBI in a doubleheader with Emerson on Saturday in GNAC
action. Mahoney also made seven outs in the field.
