Newton, MA- The Lasell University field hockey team put up a gritty fight on Wednesday afternoon but came up short in a 1-4 loss to Dean College.
Both teams came out strong in the opening quarter, trading early scoring opportunities. Lasell's attack, led by Megan Crabtree and Brooklyn Northcutt, generated multiple shots on goal, but the Dean keeper stood tall to keep the game scoreless.
The Bulldogs broke through midway through the second quarter to give the Bulldogs a 0-1 lead. They doubled the advantage just three minutes later, to send Dean into halftime up 0-2.
Dean extended their lead early in the third pushing the score to 0-3. The Lasers continued to press offensively, earning multiple penalty corners, but the Dean defense held firm.
The Lasers broke through in the fourth quarter as Amelia McAfee buried a shot off a feed from Kaylene Ellis to make it 1-3. Despite the surge, Dean added one more insurance goal in the 56th minute sealing the 1-4 victory. McKenna Ecker finished with 12 saves in a stellar effort for Lasell.
