Standish, ME – Despite a strong first-half showing, the Lasell University field hockey team fell to Saint Joseph's College of Maine, 4–1, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup Saturday afternoon.
Lasell struck first late in the second quarter when sophomore Arianna Morse found the back of the cage with an unassisted goal at the 28:56 mark. The Lasers took the 1–0 lead into the halftime break, backed by a composed defensive effort and solid goaltending from McKenna Ecker, who recorded seven saves on the day.
However, the Monks' offense came back from the break with a newfound spark, sending in four unanswered goals over the second half. After two Saint Joseph's goals in the first two minutes of the third quarter, the Lasers found themselves trailing for the first time all afternoon. Lasell's offense continued to fight, generating strong looks on net, but couldn't break through the Saint Joseph's defense down the stretch.
An insurance goal for the Monks came in the opening minute of the fourth quarter, followed by a fourth and final goal in the last five minutes to secure the 4–1 win for the home team.
Lasell totaled 11 shots, with eight on goal, and earned nine penalty corners—matching Saint Joseph's in both categories. Riley Thayer and Jacquelyn Scopa each contributed multiple shots on target, while Morse's goal marked her first of the season.
Up Next: The Lasers will be back on the field this Wednesday, in a non-conference matchup against Salve Regina at 5:00pm.
