Bristol, RI- Lasell University opened its 2025 field hockey season on the road Sunday afternoon, falling 6–1 to a sharp Roger Williams squad in non-conference play.
The Lasers were under pressure early, conceding two goals in the first six minutes and trailing 4–0 by halftime. Despite a tough first half, Lasell showed resilience in the third quarter, capitalizing on one of their four penalty corners.
Midfielder Jacquelyn Scopa put Lasell on the board at the 37:14 mark, finishing a setup from Amelia McAfee for her first goal of the season. It was the highlight of a stronger third quarter for the Lasers, who managed three of their four total shots during that frame.
Freshman goalkeeper Brooke Gaudet tallied seven saves in her first collegiate appearance, while senior goalkeeper McKenna Ecker tallied six saves in the final three quarters. The pair faced relentless pressure, with Roger Williams firing 31 shots — 19 of them on target.
Lasell struggled to create offensive opportunities, with just one shot on goal and four total shots. Scopa was the lone Laser to record both a shot and a goal, while McAfee earned the team's only assist.
Up Next: The Lasers will be back on the field this Wednesday, for their home-opener against Framingham State at 5:00.
