NEWTON, Mass. – A freshman on the Lasell University field hockey team was recognized on Tuesday as the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) announced its inaugural weekly honors for the 2019 fall sports season.
Freshman Mya Maxim (South China, Maine) is the first GNAC Field Hockey Rookie of the Week for 2019. She played a key role in Lasell's season-opening 3-2 overtime victory over Becker College last Friday at Grellier Field.
A freshman forward, Maxim scored two goals, including the game-tying and game winning goals in the victory over Becker. She deflected home her first goal to tie the game at 2-2 with 2:51 remaining in regulation and fired in the game-winner at 2:48 into overtime.
Maxim shares the GNAC lead after the first weekend of the season with the two goals.
Lasell (1-0) is back in action on Wednesday, September 4, with a non-conference game at Keene State College (6:30 p.m.) The Lasers are also home again on Saturday, September 7, hosting Nichols College at noon.
