NEW LONDON, N.H. (10/22/2014) – Junior Ashley Gleason (Suffield, Conn.) scored 2:04 into the second overtime to lift Lasell College to a 2-1 win at Colby-Sawyer on a wet and windy Wednesday afternoon at the Sally Shaw Veitch Turf Field. Lasell improves to 6-9 and will play at Anna Maria on Saturday. Colby-Sawyer drops to 7-9 and will host Castleton on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. with a trip to the NAC postseason on the line.
Lasell freshman Leah Sullivan (Mansfield, Mass.) put the Lasers in the lead just 2:38 into the contest on a feed from junior Danielle Hottin (North Branford, Conn.). Both teams jockeyed for field position for the remainder of the frame and the score held at 1-0 heading into halftime.
Colby-Sawyer knotted the score in the 50th minute on a goal from sophomore Emily Reagan (Duxbury, Vt.). Sophomore teammate Allyse Mullen (Wilder, Vt.) set up Reagan who ripped a shot from 10 yards to record her second goal of the season. Neither team could find the game-winner in regulation resulting in overtime.
Although the Lasers failed to score in the first overtime, they controlled much of the action and had a 7-0 advantage in shots taken. The visitors pulled through 2:04 into the second overtime on the fifth goal of the season from Gleason.
Lasell keeper Taylor Sheehan (Brewster, Mass.) collected five stops in the win, while Colby-Sawyer goalie Jodi Dumayne (Claremont, N.H.) finished with nine saves in the loss.
