Newton, MA - The Lasell College women's field hockey team lost to the Engineers of MIT 7-1 in non-conference action Tuesday afternoon. MIT improved to 3-0 on the young season with the victory, while the Lasers fell to 0-2.
The 20th ranked Engineers got on the board first when Molly McShane took a pass from Elizabeth Dethy and finished it past Lasell goalie Cassie Aviles. The Lasers responded with a goal from junior Ainslee Thompson to even the score at 1-1. A Maddy Wharton goal with 27 minutes remaining in the half gave the visitors a 2-1 advantage, which they took into the half.
MIT came out firing in the second half, netting five goals by five different players to open up the game and produce the 7-1 final margin.
Aviles took the loss, but finished the game with 15 saves for Lasell, while Jenna Klein earned the victory for MIT.
