His earlier coaching career at Salem State University (2011–2015) was marked by back-to-back MASCAC League Championships and an NCAA appearance in 2013, driven by a pitching staff that included the 2014 Pitcher of the Year.

Ferrari’s baseball journey began as a standout pitcher at Salem State, where he graduated in 1988 with a degree in Business Education. From 1984 to 1988, he was a key player on the Vikings baseball team, contributing to a record-setting 34-win season in 1985 and the team’s first ECAC New England Division III Championship in 1987.
