BSB: Lasers Down Bluejays in GNAC Play
West Hartford, CT- The Lasell University baseball team used a late offensive push and a complete-game gem from Ty Lohsen to knock off Saint Joseph's (Conn.), 3-1, on Thursday afternoon in GNAC action.
The Blue Jays struck first in the bottom of the second, using an RBI single from Joseph Fritz to grab an early 1-0 lead. From there, Lohsen settled in and controlled the game, limiting Saint Joseph's to just six hits while working around three walks across all nine innings. The sophomore right-hander tossed a complete game, striking out five in the win while forcing two double plays behind him.
Lasell threatened throughout the afternoon, collecting eight hits but leaving 10 runners on base through the first six innings. The breakthrough finally came in the top of the seventh. Nick Nigro opened the frame and later came around to score after Tyler McDonald lined an RBI single to left field to tie the game at 1-1.
Moments later, Declan Silva delivered the go-ahead knock with an RBI single to right, scoring Jonah Nielsen and giving the Lasers their first lead of the day. McDonald later crossed the plate on a wild pitch to extend the advantage to 3-1.
That was all Lohsen needed, as he shut the door over the final two innings to secure the road conference win.
Declan Silva paced the Lasers at the plate, finishing 3-for-5 with an RBI, while McDonald added a hit, an RBI, and a run scored. Nigro and Nielsen each scored a run in the victory.
