BSB: Lasell Falls to Beacons 20-14
Boston, MA- Lasell took home a loss after facing off against non-conference opponent UMass Boston, falling 20–14 in a high-scoring contest on Tuesday afternoon.
The Lasers struck first in the opening inning, but UMass Boston answered immediately with five runs in the bottom half and followed with six more in the second to seize early control. Trailing 10–4 after two, Lasell never backed down, continuing to apply pressure at the plate and string together offense throughout the game.
Lasell chipped away with a run in the fourth before putting together a strong sixth inning behind a two-RBI single from Robert Leyva to cut into the deficit. The Lasers kept rolling in the seventh, scoring three more runs highlighted by an RBI triple from Nicholas Groussis and a run-scoring single from Calvin Sanft to make it a nine-run game heading into the late innings.
After UMass Boston broke the game open with a seven-run sixth inning, Lasell continued to fight until the final out. The Lasers closed the game with a four-run ninth, punctuated by a grand slam from Jonah Nielsen, who finished with five RBI on the day.
Nielsen led the offensive effort, going 3-for-6 with a home run and a double, while Sanft delivered a perfect 3-for-3 performance with three runs scored. Matthew Williams added two hits and three RBI, and Tim Callahan also recorded three hits in the loss as Lasell totaled 15 hits as a team.
Despite the offensive production, defensive miscues proved costly, as 11 errors led to multiple unearned runs for UMass Boston.
Jeremy Angeles took the loss on the mound for Lasell, with the Lasers utilizing several arms in relief throughout the contest.
Up Next: Lasell will be back on the field this Saturday with a conference doubleheader against Albertus Magnus.
