BSB: Sammarco Tabbed as Lasell Baseball Head Coach
Newton, MA- The Lasell Lasers baseball will be led into the 2026 season by Matt Sammarco, who has been named interim head coach effective immediately.
Sammarco will enter his fifth season on the Lasell coaching staff and brings a deep connection to the program as a former Laser. He last played for Lasell in 2015 and has remained closely tied to the university both on and off the field.
Following his graduation, Sammarco gained valuable experience coaching in the Futures League under General Manager Bill Terlecky, before moving on to coach in New York City at Trevor Day School. He later spent three years with the Tri-City ValleyCats, the Single-A affiliate of the Houston Astros, beginning in a clubhouse role and eventually transitioning into a front office position. Sammarco also served as a Player Development Coordinator with Factory Athletics, where he worked closely with high school baseball and softball players.
As a student-athlete at Lasell, Sammarco earned All-Conference Second Team honors during his senior season, leading the team in batting average (.337), on-base percentage (.416), and hits (33).
On the coaching side, Sammarco played a pivotal role in one of the most successful offensive seasons in program history. During the 2023 campaign, he took over as Lasell's hitting coach and helped guide the Lasers to a historic year at the plate. The team set six offensive school records, including most at-bats (1,253), runs scored (276), hits (385), RBIs (236), total bases (544), and sacrifice flies (23).
"I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity to continue building the Lasell Baseball program," said Sammarco. "This program means a great deal to me, and I'm excited to lead our student-athletes as we move forward."
