Marlborough, MA - The Lasell University baseball team finished out its 2025 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) regular season against the Amcats of Anna Maria with a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon. After capturing a dominant 15-2 victory in game one, the Amcats were able to steal game two 5-4, to force a split.
Game 1
After a quiet first inning, Lasell's offense erupted for five runs in the second. Christopher Bulk sparked the rally with a two-run single, followed by an RBI single from Tim Callahan and a two-run double by Scott Lyon to cap the frame. Lasell continued to pile on with runs in the third, fifth, and sixth innings, taking a 9-0 lead into the seventh. In the eighth inning, the Lasers put the finishing touches on the victory, scoring four more runs to force the game into a mercy rule. Scott Lyon led the attack, going 2-for-5 with two doubles and three RBIs. Pierce Clare also delivered a big game, finishing 3-for-4 with three RBIs and scoring twice. Bulk added four RBIs, including a two-run single and an RBI double. On the mound, Zachary Simone was dominant, tossing seven innings, allowing just two runs off three hits, and striking out five. Darek Lallo pitched a scoreless eighth to seal the win.
Game 2
Following the dominant outing earlier in the day, the Lasers couldn't overcome a three-run fifth inning by the Amcats in game two and dropped a close contest 5-4, despite a late rally. Lasell struck first, with Tim Callahan delivering an RBI single in the opening frame to score Declan Silva. Anna Maria quickly responded with a run of their own, tying the game 1-1 after the first. Both teams traded runs again in the fourth inning, highlighted by a Pierce Clare RBI single that momentarily put Lasell ahead 2-1. However, Anna Maria's offense broke through in the bottom of the fifth as they took and extended the lead to 5-2. After not scoring since the fourth, the Lasers made things interesting in the ninth. Connor Freitas would reach base, followed by Pierce Clare blasting a two-run home run — his third RBI of the game — trimming the deficit to just one run. However, Anna Maria's Owen Sullivan, who went the distance with a complete game, shut the door with a pair of strikeouts to end the threat. Sullivan struck out 13 in his nine innings of work, allowing just five hits and four runs. Luke Descheneaux took the loss for Lasell, surrendering five runs on eight hits over 4.2 innings. Relievers Ty Lohsen and Owen Caldwell combined to throw 3.1 scoreless innings to keep Lasell within striking distance. Tim Callahan and Pierce Clare led Lasell at the plate, combining for four of the team's five hits. With the split, Lasell moves to 23-12 overall and 11-4 in conference play, while Anna Maria improves to 17-18 and 6-9.
Up Next - The Lasers have a final non-conference regular season game, visiting the Falcons of Fisher College to wrap up the 2025 regular season. They will also be headed to the GNAC Playoffs as the #3 seed and compete in pod play at Mitchell College.
