BB: Lasers Fall to Rivier 4-2
Nashua, NH - Lasell University dropped a tightly contested Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup against Rivier University on Thursday afternoon at Harvey Woods Field, falling 4–2 despite a strong showing from the bullpen. The loss moves Lasell to 22–10 overall and 10–2 in conference play.
After a scoreless first several innings, Rivier broke through in the fourth inning, capitalizing on a pair of Lasell errors to plate three runs. Lasell chipped away in the sixth, when Scott Lyon lifted a sacrifice fly to center, bringing home Declan Silva. However, the Raiders responded in the bottom half with a sac fly of their own, extending their lead to 4–1. Connor Freitas added a spark for the Lasers in the eighth, ripping a double to right-center to score Tim Callahan and trim the deficit to two. But Rivier's closer Ty Baker, shut the door over the final two innings to earn the save. On the mound, Lasell starter Jeremy Blackwood (3–1) took the loss, allowing four runs (two earned) on seven hits over five innings. Owen Caldwell was stellar in relief, tossing three scoreless frames with five strikeouts. Offensively, Tim Callahan led Lasell with two hits and a stolen base. Freitas and Lyon recorded the team's two RBIs.
Up Next - The Lasers return to action in Providence, RI on Friday, where they will be the technical home team for a doubleheader against Johnson & Wales.
