BB: Lasers Dominate Pair of Games at NEC
Henniker, NH – The Lasell University baseball team continued its strong Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) campaign with a pair of dominant victories over New England College on Saturday afternoon at Laurie Cox Memorial Field. Sweeping the doubleheader, they improved to a 22-8 overall record and stand at 10-1 in GNAC play.
Game 1
Lasell's offense came alive with 14 hits, including a solo home run by CJ Mills in the third inning and a two-run double from Pierce Clare in the sixth. Ten different runs crossed the plate for Lasell, led by Tim Callahan (2-for-5, 2 RBIs) and Ross Audet (3-for-4, 2 runs). Clare finished with three RBIs, while Jared Whitby added a two-RBI single in the ninth. On the mound, Matt Fletcher was lights out, improving to 6–0 with a seven-inning, four-hit shutout. He struck out eight and didn't issue a walk. Relievers Ty Lohsen and Owen Caldwell closed out the final two innings, combining for three strikeouts and retiring all six batters they faced.
Game 2
The hot-hitting carried over into game two for the Lasers, who scored 13 runs on eight hits and drew nine walks. Scott Lyon's 2-for-5 game included a three-run home run in the fourth, and four other Lasers contributed RBIs in the game. Luke Descheneaux (2-1) went the distance, tossing all seven innings, giving up three earned runs, and striking out four. Tim Callahan and CJ Mills both added extra base hits to their stat lines, and additionally, Callahan cemented himself in the Laser record books as he now stands atop the all-time career hits mark with 165 and counting.
