West Hartford, CT - The Lasell University baseball team picked up a pair of Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) wins on Friday afternoon against the Blue Jays of Saint Joseph (Conn.). With the wins, they improved to 20-8 (9-1 GNAC) and the Blue Jays dropped to 19-13 (7-5 GNAC).
Game 1
The Lasers jumped out to an early 3-0 lead through the first two innings behind a Tim Callahan RBI double. In the third, the Blue Jays pulled back to within a run, but in the fourth, a CJ Mills solo-home run boosted the Lasers' lead to 4-2. Three more runs came across in the sixth for Lasell, and in the seventh, Mills would hit another deep blast to left-center to give the Lasers an 8-3 advantage. The Blue Jays then made their push as four runs in the bottom of the seventh brought them back to within one. However, Ty Lohsen would come in relief out of the bullpen and provide two scoreless innings, which resulted in the 8-7 win. Lasers starting pitcher Adam Marsh went six innings, allowing three earned runs and striking out three batters on the mound. His effort gained him his first win of the season and put his record at 1-2 on the year, and Lohsen's two innings of work earned him the save. CJ Mills' multi-home run game led the Lasers offensively as he scored four of the eight Laser runs, also contributing two RBIs on his pair of solo shots. Tim Callahan and Connor Freitas also added two RBIs each for the Lasers.
Game 2
Zachary Simone (3-1) was dominant on the mound in game two for the Lasers as he pitched a complete game, allowing just two runs and six hits in his 35 batters faced. Blue Jays Aaron LaRose (3-3) kept the Lasers in check for the first three innings before they finally got to him in the fourth. The Lasers pushed two runs across in the fourth with Connor Freitas' double in the fifth bringing in two more, making it 4-0. Scott Lyon then capped the inning with a two-run blast, and later on in the eighth, CJ Mills would add another insurance run on an RBI double. Tim Callahan posted a 2-for-5 performance coupled with two runs scored, and CJ Mills went 3-for-5 with an RBI. Jared Whitby also contributed a 3-for-3 day, drawing a walk and scoring a run.
Up Next - The Lasers will play another GNAC doubleheader on Saturday afternoon against the Pilgrims of New England College in Henniker, NH.
