BSB: Lasers Dominate Elms 9-1
Chicopee, MA – A dominant pitching performance and a five-run ninth inning powered the Lasell University baseball team to a convincing 9–1 road victory over Elms College in GNAC play on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Lasers improve to 18–7 overall and 7–1 in GNAC play, continuing their strong march through the conference schedule. Elms falls to 9–16 (4–6 GNAC).
Senior right-hander Matthew Fletcher was brilliant on the mound, tossing 7.0 scoreless innings, allowing just 4 hits and striking out 8 to earn his first win of the season. Relievers Zachary Simone and Ty Lohsen closed it out with a pair of strong frames, combining for 3 strikeouts and no earned runs allowed. The game remained tight until the ninth, when Lasell exploded for five runs to break it wide open.
Lasell's balanced offense saw nine hits from seven different players, with timely hitting across the lineup: Connor Freitas led the team with 3 RBIs, going 2-for-5 with a pair of run-scoring singles. Tim Callahan drove in 3 runs as well, including a 2-run double in the ninth. CJ Mills scored 3 runs, added an RBI double, and drew a walk in a dynamic leadoff performance. Declan Silva went 1-for-3 with an RBI and scored twice. Jared Whitby added a triple, scored 2 runs, and played a role in two big innings.
While the Lasers did commit three errors, they also turned a clean double play and capitalized on key Elms miscues, scoring five unearned runs. Lasell out-hit Elms 9–5 and was efficient with runners in scoring position, particularly during the back half of the game.
