Game 2
Norwich
Waltham, MA - The Lasell University baseball team played a doubleheader against the Cadets of Norwich College on Sunday afternoon. They would prove to be victorious in both, taking the pair of games 5-4 and 8-4.
Game 1
In the first game of the afternoon, both teams went scoreless through four innings as starting pitchers for the Lasers and Cadets strong starts. Adam Marsh for the Lasers didn't allow a hit through the first five innings and finally saw his offense get a run across which came from a Tim Callahan RBI single to center field and put the Lasers up 1-0. The top of the 6th however is when the Cadets finally got to Marsh, as a 3-run home run capped a 4-run inning and catapulted them in front 4-1. The 7th inning saw the Lasers pull back to within a run as Declan Silva knocked in Bobby Long and another timely hit from Tim Callahan scored CJ Mills making it a 4-3 game. After no scores in the 8th inning, the Lasers came up in the 9th trailing still by a lone run with the chance to force extras or walk it off. After teammate Tyler DiNezza was hit by the pitch to leadoff, Senior Christopher Bulk then seized the opportunity to steal the win as he deposited a ball over the fence in right-center field and walked it off for the Lasers who took the 5-4 victory.
Game 2
The second matchup between the two teams was a 7-inning game that featured Junior Luke Descheneaux as the starter. Offensively the Lasers carried the momentum to end the game prior into the first inning of this one as they put together a 4-run effort. This included a Connor Freitas 2-RBI double and a Scott Lyon 2-run home run. Norwich got back two runs in the top of the second but the Lasers got their lead back up to four in the 4th inning behind Christopher Bulk and Scott Lyon's RBI doubles. Norwich threatened once more with the bases loaded and one out in the 5th, but Ty Lohnsen got out of the jam as the Lasers retained the lead 6-4. In the bottom of the 6th, it was Bulk and Lyon once again who helped tack on runs for the Lasers as they each drove in one more RBI and made it an 8-4 game. Owen Caldwell then was inserted into the game to seal the deal where he struck out the side and gave the Lasers the 8-4 win.
Up Next - The Lasers will have an out-of-conference game on Wednesday evening against the Judges of Brandeis University with the first pitch set for 6 PM.
