NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. – Juniors Wyatt Sihvonen (Lebanon, Conn.) and Brian Cipolla (Cranston, R.I.) drove in five runs apiece Tuesday afternoon as Lasell University overpowered Pine Manor College, 22-10, in a non-conference baseball game at the New England Baseball Complex.
Sihvonen had five hits, including three doubles and a home run, while Cipolla cracked a double and a triple to lead the Lasers' 19-hit attack. Junior Harrison Silva (Lowell, Mass.) also had four hits, including a double and a triple, and juniors Sean Doris (Lincoln, R.I.) and Mario Kiaunis (West Haven, Conn.) contributed two hits each and combined for three RBI.
The Lasers even their record at 2-2 while the Gators drop to 1-2.
Senior Lorenzo Davis (West Haven, Conn.) started on the mound for Lasell and picked up the win (1-0), working five innings and striking out five. Sophomore Matt Motyka (Vernon, Conn.) pitched two innings of relief and junior Leo Frisella (Tewksbury, Mass.) and freshman Jay Giangrande (Andover, Mass.) worked one inning each.
Lasell blew the game open in the fourth inning with nine runs. The Lasers scored runs in seven of the nine innings, including four runs in both the sixth and ninth innings. Pine Manor plated three runs in the fourth inning and four more in the fifth to cut the score to 11-7, but Lasell answered with six runs over the next two innings.
The Gators finished with 10 runs on 14 hits, including three home runs. Junior Randall Adams (Garden Grove Calif.) had two doubles and a home run and knocked in three. Senior Terry Daniels (Auburn, N.Y.) also had three hits, including a double and a triple, and junior Ronnie Thomas (Albany, N.Y.) had a double and a home run.
Lasell is right back in action on Wednesday, March 11, against Emerson College at 3:30 p.m. at St. John's Prep in Danvers, Mass. Pine Manor also plays Emerson in its next outing with a doubleheader this Saturday, March 14, beginning at noon.
