Gagnon Seals Twinbill Sweep of Colby-Sawyer
WALTHAM, Mass. (3/26/16) The Lasell baseball team swept the visiting Chargers of Colby-Sawyer College on Saturday afternoon at Stein Diamond on the campus of Brandeis University. Lasell improves 7-7 on the year, while the Chargers fall to 6-6.

Game One- Lasell 4 Colby-Sawyer 1
Freshman Brett Sherron (Howard Beach, N.Y.) drove in a pair of RBI's in the victory, while seniors Dan Gagnon (Pomfret, Conn.) and Skylar Beckerman (Pensacola, Fla.) drove a run in as well. Gagnon reached based twice, while also putting together a double play at shortstop.
For the Chargers, sophomore Doug Avellino (Woodstock, Vt.) batted 2-for-3 with a run batted in to go along with the lone double of the game.
In the first inning, the Chargers earned the first run of the day with a single up the middle by senior Jeff Dunn (Bellingham, Mass.). The Lasers were able to tie it up in the bottom of the inning when Beckerman worked a bases juiced walk to force home a run.
After the first, both starting pitchers settled in for the day. Junior Casey Johnson (Windsor Conn.) struck out six batters over six innings and Chargers' starter Chris Mitchell Jr. (Avon, Mass.) allowed two hits over four and a third innings.
Freshmen Evan Michalek (Berlin, Conn.) got the Lasers' bats going in the bottom of the fifth, and Sherron drove in two runs on a single back up the middle to break the tie.
In the top of the seventh, junior Hector Coscione (Newton, Mass.) finished the game on the hill with three straight fly outs to earn his second save of the season.
Game Two- Lasell 3 Colby-Sawyer 2 (8 innings)
Coscione shined in the second half of the Lasers' twinbill, recording a hit at all three at-bats, highlighted by a solo shot to left center. Michalek and Gagnon swung into two hits apiece, with Gagnon hitting the walk-off single in the eighth.
In the fourth inning, junior Matt Haskell (Wallingford, Conn.) began a two out rally with a double to push the Lasers' lead to 2-0. Chargers' hitters Justin Devoid (Quechee, Vt.) and Dunn both earned two hits a piece, but were unable to get on the scoreboard until the seventh inning.
In the bottom of the eighth, senior Tyler Flaherty led the inning (Portland, Maine) off with a single before he was advanced to second by a sacrifice bunt by pinch hitter David Marsell (Baldwinsville, N.Y.). With two outs in the innings, Gagnon became the hero of the day smacking a walk-off hit in between the left and center fielders to drive in Flaherty from second.
Lasell's starting pitcher, senior Jake Malone (Harwich, Mass.) threw six innings allowing one run with five strikeouts, while Chargers' starter Connor Henry pitched three and two third innings and gave up two runs. Junior Dan Berger (Meriden Conn.) pitched the eighth inning before he retired three of the four batters that he faced.
The Lasers will take on Newbury College on Tuesday, March 29th at Stein Diamond at 7:00 pm.
