Baseball Falls to Heavy Hitting by Wis.-Platteville 13-5
FORT MYERS, Fla. (3/18/16) – The Pioneers of Wisconsin-Platteville University strung together 14 hits to defeat the Lasell baseball team 13-5 on Thursday afternoon at Terry Park. The Lasers drop to 3-6 this season while the Pioneers notch their first win of their spring break trip at 4-1 overall.

Senior Skylar Beckerman (Pensacola, Fla.) and freshman Brett Sherron (Howard Beach, N.Y.) drove in two ribbies a piece, with Sherron batting 3-for-4 in the effort to go along with two runs scored. Freshman Andre Marchesseault (Chesire, Conn.) accounted for the remaining run for the Lasers on a single to left field.
Junior Colin DeBoer (Brandon, Wis.) had a day in the victory for the Pioneers, swinging into a double, a triple, and an RBI. Seniors Evan Greco (Greenfield, Wis.) and George Jester (Midlothian, Ill.) and junior Max Meitzler (Crystal Lake, Ill.) contributed with a pair of ribbies a piece on a 2-for-3 lead performance by Meitzler.
After a solid showing by both pitchers, Wisconsin broke open the scoring in the bottom of the third after DeBoer's triple to right. The next four batters recorded consectuvie bingles to equal a six-hit, four-run performance to end the side.
The Pioneers tacked on three more runs before Lasell broke the shutout on Marchesseault's single to left. Sherron and Beckerman drove home three runs on the two hits of the 8th, however, Wisconsin one-upped the inning with four runs of their own on two base hits and two walked in runs to seal an eventual 13-5 victory.
Pioneer's junior pitcher Lucas Keller (Sussex Wis.) allowed just three hits in six innings pitched to earn the victory, while junior Casey Johnson (Windsor, Conn.) took the loss on six earned runs in five innings tossed.
The Lasers will face SUNY Purchase tomorrow at the Lee County Development Complex with first pitch set for 3:00 p.m.
