BOSTON, Mass. (3/28/14) – The Lasell College baseball team picked up a non-conference victory over Emerson College on Friday evening, running out to a big early lead and closing out the 14-10 victory. The Lasers improved to 5-6 on the season with the win as they head into Great Northeast Athletic Conference play on Tuesday April 1st when they face St. Joseph's College of Maine.
Kevin Post started and threw four no-hit innings for Lasell, walking two and striking out six to earn the victory on the mound. Wes Hurty finished with a double and two singles, scoring twice and driving in four runs for the Lasers, Chris Pittman added two doubles and a single while scoring three runs and knocking in one. Dan Gagnon singled and doubled while stealing a pair of bases and drawing three of the Lasers 15 walks in the game.
Lasell scored five runs in the bottom half of the first inning, getting two runs on an RBI single by Bobby Ellard, and one on a sacrifice fly from Hurty. Ellard walked and Pittman singled to open the bottom of the second and Hurty drove them both in with a double to give Lasell a 7-0 lead.
Lasell was held scoreless in the third inning, but tacked on another in the fourth when Pittman doubled to lead off and scored on a single by Brandon Valentin to put Lasell in from 8-0. Jake Malone relieved Post and allowed three runs on the top of the fifth inning but Lasell came right back with five more in the bottom of the fifth inning to maintain a 13-3 advantage.
Emerson closed the gap with four runs in the top of the sixth, and Lasell added an insurance run in the home half of the inning to hold a 14-7 lead. Emerson scored three more in the top of the eighth inning but were unable to complete their comeback, falling 14-10 in nine innings of play.
