Stachura, Uberti Nab All-Conference Honors in Baseball
Bobby Stachura, and Billy Uberti were named to the GNAC A--Conference team, while Greg Sherman and Jake Salkovitz were honored by the league as well.
Newton, Mass. (4/29/13) - The Lasell College baseball team reached the final weekend of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference tournament in the 2013 season, and saw several players honored for their contributions to the squad. Senior third baseman Bobby Stachura (Middletown, Conn.) was named to the All-Conference Second team, junior first baseman Billy Uberti (Newton, Mass.) earned Third team honors, and Jacob Salkovitz (Brockton, Mass.) was named to the GNAC Sportsmanship team. Stachura was also named to the GNAC All-Tournament team, and was joined on the All-Tournament squad by pitcher Greg Sherman (Marshfield, Mass.).
Stachura lead the team in batting average at .340 and on base percentage at .418 while driving in 17 runs, scoring 14 times, and recording eight doubles. He posted a .977 fielding percentage on the year, committing only two errors in 87 chances. In the GNAC tournament he was 4 for 12 at the plate with a pair of walks and two runs scored.
Uberti finished thrid in batting average for Lasell, hitting at a .306 clip for the season, while posting a team-highs in RBI's with 19, doubles with 10, and hits with 37. His fielding percentage of .979 was the second best mark on the team, however his 237 total chances were the most by a wide margin for the Lasers.
Sherman was named to the GNAC All-Tournament team after recording a pair of appearances in Lasell's three games. He threw three and a third inning sof scoreless relief to earn the save in the Lasers victory over Albertus Magnus, and was strong in his start against SUffolk University, holding the Rams to theee runs through six inning of work.
Salkovitz closed out an outstanding four-year career, and his leadership and committment to the program were key factors in the Lasers return to postseason this year.
