Lasers Sweep Falcons in Baseball Twinbill

Lasell College defeated the Albertus Magnus baseball team 4-1 and 6-3 to complete a two-game sweep of the Falcons on Saturday night in West Haven. Lasell improved to 7-11 overall and 3-3 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play, while Albertus falls to 6-9 on the year and 4-2 in conference action.

Game One:

Corey Michel (Rochester, N.H.) and Billy Uberti (Newton, Mass.) both recorded two hits to lead the Lasers. Lasell's David Long (Brookfield, Conn.) allowed three hits and four walks in five innings of work. Gary Trotteir (Rehoboth, Mass.) earned the save as he struck out two in two innings of work.

Matthew Finkenzeller (Wolcott, Conn.) went 5.1 innings as he allowed four runs on nine hits. Mike Hughes (Norwalk, Conn.) came in out of the bullpen and faced five batters in 1.2 innings of work. He recorded one strikeout.

Lasell scored three runs on five hits in the top of the second then one in the fourth to take a commanding 4-0 lead. Long struck out four consecutive batters to begin the game and retired the first seven he faced before Albertus' Patrick Dornfried (Berlin, Conn.) doubled to left center. Albertus loaded the bases with two outs thanks to the double and two walks but a sliding catch in centerfield by the Lasers Rob Madden (Hingham, Mass.) ended the frame with the Falcons still off the scoreboard.

Albertus put a run on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning as Nick Sedia (Bronx, N.Y.) scored on an RBI single by Anthony Pellegrino (Branford, Conn.).

Game Two:

Matti Doxter (Somersworth, N.H.) improved to 2-2 after five innings of work.  He walked five batters and gave up four hits, while striking out three. Vinny Romano (Yonkers, N.Y.) came into the ball game to pick up the save. Rob Madden (Hingham, Mass.) had a pair of doubles and three RBI's for Lasell, who also got three hits from Bobby Stachura (Middletown, Conn.) and two hits from Billy Uberti.

Brian Levchuk (Branford, Conn.) took the loss to fall to 0-3 on the year. He gave up four runs on seven hits. Tyler Donnan (Meriden, Conn.) came in to pitch the seventh and gave up two runs on two hits.

Lasell put two runs on the board in the second inning thanks to a double by Rob Madden that plated both runners. Albertus cut into the lead with a run in the third as Nick Sedia (Bronx, N.Y.) scored on a wild pitch.

The Lasers added two more runs in the fourth on three hits. A double by Madden scored the first run before Madden scored on a base hit by Billy Uberti. An RBI triple by Robert Gambardella (North Haven, Conn.) scored the Falcons third run of the contest before the senior scored on a Arber Mehmedi (Naugatuck, Conn.) sacrifice fly to centerfield as Albertus cut the Lasell lead to 4-3. The Lasers added two runs in the top of the seventh to extend their lead to 6-3.
