Timely Hitting Helps Lasell to 9-6 Win over Wentworth in Baseball
Lasell used a pair of three run innings to topple non-conference opponent Wentworth, 9-6.

Waltham, MA – The Lasell College baseball team used some timely hitting to earn their fifth victory in their last six games, defeating Wentworth, 9-6 on Thursday night at Stein Diamond. The Lasers put together back-to-back three run innings, scoring all of their runs in both the fourth and fifth innings with two outs. The win moves the Lasers to 10-14 on the season, while Wentworth drops to 13-12 with the loss.
The Leopards jumped out to a quick lead in the top of the first inning by scoring two runs off Lasell starting pitcher Matti Doxter (Somersworth, NH). The Lasers answered in the bottom half of the first with one run on a Conor Cavanagh (Quincy, MA) RBI single. However, Lasell could not capitalize on a bases loaded opportunity and Wentworth escaped the first with a 2-1 lead.
In the third inning Billy Uberti (Newton, MA) ripped an RBI double scoring Matt Mahoney (Rockland, MA) to tie the game at 2 apiece.
Lasell took its first lead of the game in the home half of the fourth inning by scoring three runs. The Lasers cashed in on three Wentworth errors to take a 5-2 advantage.
The Leopards made it a one run game at 5-4 in the top of the fifth inning when Conner Flisnik (Marcy, NY) struck a two run single scoring Alex Wong (Lewiston, ME) and Anthony Matera (Trumbull, CT). Another three run Lasell inning in the bottom of the frame pushed the Lasers lead to 8-4. Matt Sammarco (New Canaan, CT), Joshua Sullivan (Rockland, MA), and Mahoney all smacked RBI singles in the inning.
Wentworth put together two runs in the in the seventh, but Lasell scored another in the eighth to take a 9-6 victory.
Doxter, 1-2, went five innings for Lasell, allowing four runs on seven hits while striking out five to record his first win of the season. Sullivan pitched a scoreless ninth inning striking out a pair to pick up his first save.
Ben Lewis (Middletown, RI) pitched four innings allowing five runs, two earned, and six hits while striking out three batters and took the loss on the hill for Wentworth.
Wentworth received great performances at the plate from Jon Spitz (Hanover, MA), Wong, and Flisnik who all had multiple hits in the loss. Flisnik led the Leopards with four RBI.
The Lasers acquired key contributions from Mahoney, Uberti, Cavanagh, and Cory Mitchell (Rockland, MA) all of whom went 2-for-4 on the night.
Lasell will return to the diamond on Saturday, April 7th when they travel to Suffolk University for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference doubleheader, with the first pitch scheduled for 12 p.m. Wentworth will be in action again on Thursday, April 12th when they square-off with Mass. Maritime at 3 p.m.
