West Haven, CT – Behind a stellar performance from senior outfielder Conor Cavanagh(Quincy, MA), the Lasell College baseball team swept both games of a doubleheader on the road Sunday against Albertus Magnus College at Quigley Stadium in West Haven, Connecticut. The Lasers took game one of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader 7-3, and rolled in game two, by a score of 8-2.
Game one saw outstanding performances by Cavanagh and Bobby Stachura (Middletown, CT). The Lasers quickly jumped out to a 1-0 lead on an RBI double by Cavanagh in the top of the first inning. The lead would not last long, as the Falcons came back to tie the ball game shortly after on a Matt Caputo (East Haven, CT) RBI single in the bottom half of the inning. The Lasers would grab the lead for good in the fifth inning. An RBI single by Stachura and an RBI triple by pitcher Joshua Sullivan (Rockland, MA) would give Lasell a 4-2 lead. The Lasers added three more insurance runs in the sixth inning as Stachura and Cavanagh each produced runs in the inning. Stachura came through with a base hit that scored Andrew Pompeo (Hingham, MA) and Cavanagh struck a two-run double which would give the Lasers the 7-3 lead.
Sullivan completed all seven innings on the mound for Lasell in the 7-3 victory securing his third win of the season. Sullivan only relinquished three earned runs in his performance, while striking out four Falcons.
In game two of the afternoon, Lasell would quickly roll out of the gate with a 7-0 lead after just the second inning.
