Josh Sullivan (Rockland, MA) and Conor Cavanagh (Quincy, MA) were honored by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) with baseball All-Conference accolades for the 2010 season.
This is Sullivan’s second consecutive season being honored with All-Conference honors as he was named to the GNAC Third Team during his freshman season in 2009 as a utility player. This season, Sullivan was selected to the Second Team in the role of a pitcher, posting a 3-3 overall record, and a 3-1 GNAC slate, having started in seven total games. He pitched four complete games, striking out 42 batters in 45.1 innings. All three of his wins were in conference play, earning W’s over Norwich University (03/27/2010), St. Joseph’s College of Maine (04/10/2010), and Johnson & Wales University (04/18/2010). Sullivan pitched 5 and third innings of a perfect game against St. Joseph’s Maine, ultimately giving way to a two-hitter in the 6-2 victory over the regional powerhouse. Another impressive performance by the sophomore right hander came against Johnson & Wales, pitching a complete game while giving up just one earned run and striking out eight Wildcat batters.
Sullivan finished the year with a 1.93 ERA in conference play through 28 innings of work, ceding just six earned runs while retiring 26 batters on strikes. He finished the regular season ranked second in the GNAC in earned run average (2.77) and opponent batting average (.236). Sullivan was selected as the GNAC Pitcher of the Week once this season (04/11/2010).
In addition to his time on the mound, Sullivan also led the team with a .362 batting average, producing 38 hits, including eight doubles and four triples, while starting and playing in thirty season contests. He contributed to the Lasers’ offense with 25 runs, 16 RBI, 54 total bases, and six stolen bases. Sullivan had 10 multiple hit games this season including going 4-for-4 against the University of Massachusetts, Boston, and 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBI against SUNY Cobleskill. Defensively, Sullivan made 58 putouts and 59 assists in the field.
This is the first time Cavanagh has received a post-season award from the GNAC. The junior outfielder was selected for a season in which he hit .305 with 32 hits, inclusive of six doubles, one triple, and two home runs. He earned 19 RBI and 46 total bases in the season, and scored 18 runs for the Lasers. He started all thirty of the games he played in, making 57 putouts and two assists in the field.
Cavanagh had nine multi-hit games, including going 3-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI against Rivier, and a 2-for-4 day at the plate against Emerson College in the first round of the GNAC tournament where he belted two home runs, collected three RBI, and scored twice.
