Baseball Drops 16-2 Decision to Platteville
FAYETTEVILLE, NC-- The Lasell College baseball squad dropped a 16-2 decision to the University of Wisconsin, Platteville on the final day of competition in North Carolina.
FAYETTEVILLE, NC-- The Lasell College baseball squad dropped a 16-2 decision to the University of Wisconsin, Platteville on the final day of competition in North Carolina.
The Pioneers had previously routed the Lasers 21-2 on Thursday, March 18th, and hold a 5-1 record this season. The Lasers are currently 0-5 in the early stretch of the season.
Lasell fell behind by six runs in the top of the first inning and allowed the Pioneers to more than double the deficit by the fifth. The Lasers let up 23 hits in the game, with a dozen Pioneers featuring at least one hit. The young Laser squad, who scored both of their runs in the second inning, had a half dozen players with hits.
Herb Chappell (Salem, CT) went 2-for-3 at bat, including a double and had five putouts at first base. Conor Cavanaugh (Quincy, MA) and Chappell each scored a run and were brought home by a Carlton Lentini (Wilmington, MA) base hit in the bottom of the second. Pat Girard (Stonington, CT), Josh Sullivan (Rockland, MA), Angelo Collucci (Stoneham, MA), and Bobby Stachura (Middletown, CT) also produced a hit apiece.
Randy Weiner (Randolph, MA) struck out three batters in a three-inning stint for Lasell and Junior Veiga (Randolph, MA) retired two-of-four batters in the final inning.
Lasell’s next contest will be on Thursday, March 25th at 7:00 p.m. against Wentworth Institute of Technology. The game will mark the home opener for the Lasers and will be played at Brandeis University.
