Bobcats Outlast Lasers Through 12 Innings
FAYETTEVILLE, NC-- For the second time in two days, Frostburg State University rallied to defeat the Lasell College baseball team, overcoming the Lasers 12-6 on Thursday, in 12 innings. Earlier in the day, Lasell also fell to the University of Wisconsin, Platteville, 21-2, bringing their season slate to 0-4.

Earlier in the day, Lasell also fell to the University of Wisconsin, Platteville, 21-2, bringing their season slate to 0-4.
The Lasers fell behind 15-0 in the first four innings of the Platteville game before scoring their first run in the top of the fifth. Carlton Lentini (Wilmington, MA) hit a sacrifice fly to send Bobby Stachura (Middletown, CT) from third to home. Lasell scored their second run in the following inning when Herb Chappell (Salem, CT) drilled a home run to left field. Chappell also made five outs at first base.
Angelo Colucci (Stoneham, MA), Junior Veiga (Randolph, MA), James
O’Neil (San Diego, CA), and Josh Sullivan (Rockland, MA)
recorded a hit apiece in the defeat.
In the evening matchup against Frostburg, Lasell rallied from a 3-0 deficit in the fourth to tie the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the ninth inning. Neither team scored in the 10th inning and both scored twice in the 11th, forcing further extended play. The Bobcats scored seven runs in the top of the 12th inning, on five hits and two errors, to which the Lasers answered with only one run to drop the contest, 12-6.
Lentini walked to lead off the fourth inning, getting into position to score Lasell’s first run. Base hits by Conor Cavanaugh (Quincy, MA) and O’Neil advanced Lentini around the bags, with O’Neil earning the RBI.
In the ninth inning, Chappell singled to center field and was replaced by pinch-runner Brian McQuinn (Quincy, MA). Stachura walked and Pat Girard (Stonington, CT) singled to right center to load the bases. Matt Mahoney (Rockland, MA) brought McQuinn home on a walk and Stachura scored on Lentini’s second sacrifice hit of the day, to tie the game.
After the Bobcats regained the lead in the top of the 11th (5-3), Stachura and Veiga evened the score once more with Sullivan and O’Neil taking credit for batting them in.
Stachura would be the sole Laser to score in the final inning after Frostburg took a 12-5 lead. Both Stachura and Matt Mahoney smacked a two-base hit in the inning.
Ryan Welch (Colorado Springs, CO) struck out three Bobcats in six innings, facing 31 batters and allowing three earned runs.
Lasell’s next contest will be on Friday, March 19th against the University of Wisconsin, Platteville.
