Lasell Athletics Announces Matthew Gilmore as Head Men's Soccer Coach
Newton, MA- Lasell Athletics is excited to announce that effective immediately, Matthew Gilmore has been named the head coach of the Lasell University men's soccer program.
Gilmore brings more than a decade of coaching experience at the collegiate, club, and high school levels, along with an extensive background in player development, coach education, and program leadership. Most recently serving as Boys Director for Select Soccer Club, Gilmore has overseen boys' programming across multiple regions while leading coach development initiatives, implementing club-wide training standards, and directing player development from the youth to collegiate levels.

Prior to joining Select Soccer Club, Gilmore spent four seasons as an assistant coach with the Curry College men's soccer program, where he helped guide the Colonels to three consecutive winning seasons from 2021-23—the first such stretch in program history. During his tenure, Curry produced six All-Conference selections, two All-Region honorees, and made two Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament appearances, including a semifinal appearance in 2023.
Before his time at Curry, Gilmore served as Director of Coaching for Real Boston Football Club, where he developed the club's game model, oversaw coach education, managed player development initiatives, and led community outreach programs. His coaching résumé also includes leadership positions with Valeo Futbol Club, Hamden High School, and Cheshire Soccer Club, giving him extensive experience developing players from the youth through collegiate levels.
A former collegiate student-athlete, Gilmore competed at both NCAA Division I Sacred Heart University and NCAA Division II Southern Connecticut State University. His experiences as both a player and coach have shaped a philosophy centered on player development, accountability, and building a strong team culture.
Gilmore takes over the Lasell men's soccer program following a successful career developing players and building competitive programs at every level of the game. His experience in recruiting, player development, and coach education provides a strong foundation as he begins his tenure with the Lasers.
