During this unprecedented time, the Lasell University Department of Athletics will work to provide updates for the athletic community. Student-athletes, alumni, staff, faculty and fans can find up-to-date information on our website regarding any modifications to athletic activities due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
We are in the midst of developing protocols and guidelines for varsity athletics, general recreation, intramurals, fitness classes and other athletic-related activities. Additional updates with more specific information will be made available as they are developed.
Athletics, Intramurals & Recreation: The extent to which Lasell varsity, club and intramural sports will be able to participate in athletics this fall has not yet been fully determined. Guidelines and protocols are being developed for each of these areas.
CLUB SPORTS, INTRAMURALS & RECREATION
The Department of Athletics and the Division of Student Affairs are working together to determine what club and intramural activities will be offered this fall. We are exploring ways to provide safe and competitive club, intramural/recreation activities and expanded e-sports opportunities for students in the fall.
We anticipate that the Edwards Fitness Center, McClelland Fitness Center and the Athletic Center will be open for use by students, faculty and staff. New protocols are currently being developed to prioritize the health and safety of everyone using or working in the facility, including physical distancing, spacing out of fitness equipment and regular cleaning and disinfecting of equipment and surfaces. These protocols will cause changes to the normal use of the facilities. For example, some equipment and areas may not always be available for use; masks will need to be worn for most activities; limits will be placed on the number of users and the duration of each visit; and advance reservations may be required to access the facilities.
Outdoor athletics facilities, including the Grellier Field, Taylor Field, the sand volleyball court, the multipurpose court and the outdoor basketball court will be available for student use subject to applicable state and local safety guidelines.
Fall Sports: We are continuing to monitor the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on all aspects of campus life and we are exploring various options for competition for our fall teams, prioritizing the health, safety, and well-being of our community. A decision about the fall sport seasons and GNAC play will be made around the first week of August. Fall athletes will return to campus during the week of August 31 with the general student-body. Times and dates will be communicated as they are available.
All Sports: The Department of Athletics and the Athletic Training Staff are working together with the COVID-19 Task Force, public health officials and the NCAA to determine how varsity student-athletes, coaches and staff can return to practice and competition. As we continue to develop plans for the return of athletics, we are expecting that there will be significant opportunities for coaches to provide meaningful athletic experiences for all (fall, winter and spring) student-athletes at Lasell this fall. This website will be updated and coaches will communicate with varsity student-athletes as more definitive decisions are made.
We will continue to update information as we have it and we welcome your questions about how COVID-19 will affect athletics and recreation at Lasell during the 2020-21 academic year. Please return to this page for updates or feel free to send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org with any additional questions.
