Lasers Lose a 3-1 Match with Anchorwomen
Providence, RILasell College stole one game away from New England powerhouse Rhode Island College on Tuesday evening in a four-set womens volleyball match, at The Murray Center. The Anchorwomen dictated the first two sets easily (25-14, 25-17) before the Lasers capitalized in the third for a 25-21 win. Rhode Island came back in full force in the final set, winning 25-18, for the match.

Rhode Island came back in full force in the final set, winning 25-18, for the match.
Danielle Drapeau (Biddeford, ME) had a big night for the Lasers, seeing much of the action at the net. She opposed five total individual blocks against Rhode Island attackers, and aided with an assist in another. Drapeau also added 13 kills for a team-best on offense.
Also giving a grand showing for Lasell was Eileen Barrett (Ludlow, Mass.) who was just shy of a double-double with 9 kills and 7 digs. Barrett also contributed to two double-blocks and served in one ace.
Freshman middle Elizabeth Nichols (Southington, Conn.) continued her fiery attack with eight kills, and also dominated the net with two solo and three assisted blocks.
Handing out 34 assists over the four-set stretch was sophomore setter Meghan Crozier (Ballston Spa, NY). Crozier also was able to pick up eight digs in defensive action. Crozier was just selected as GNAC Player of the Week for her individual performances over the weekend at the Union Tournament.
Junior captain Melanie Costa (Ludlow, Mass.) produced a Lasell-best 13 digs in the contest, adding a service ace, while senior captain Amanda Major (Southbury, Conn.) dug ten additional balls from the Anchorwomen's attack.
The Lasers are now 6-17 overall and will continue with non-conference play when they visit Wentworth Institute of Technology, on Thursday evening, for a 7:00 match with the Leopards.
