Major Selected for All-Tournament Team

Amanda Major (Southbury, CT) averaged an impressive 23 digs per game during the Western Connecticut Invitational, earning her a spot on the All-Tournament Team.  Major (right), a junior, libero, was integral in the Lasers successes this weekend, including a close four-set match with Framingham State College.  Though the Lasers went 0-3 this weekend, there were some fine performances from the Lasell team.

During day two of the West Conn Invitational, the Lasers took on Western New England College first, staying close to the Golden Bears, but not quite being able to catch them.  Danielle Drapeau (Biddeford, ME) and Kelsey Schmidt (Ballston Spa, NY) came up with 7 and 6 kills respectively, in the 0-3 loss to WNEC.  Melanie Costa (Ludlow, MA), Kayla Binnette (Biddeford, ME), and Major protected the court with 40 digs combined. The Golden Bears took the match 25-21, 25-15, 25-19.

The Lasers then took on the Rams of Framingham State College in the afternoon.  Though Lasell did take game two by a score of 31-29, the Rams held on to a 3-1 win over the Lasers.  Drapeau and Schmidt combined for 13 kills, while Eileen Barrett (Ludlow, MA) produced 6 kills and 6 solo blocks.  Major, Costa, and Megan Gobeille (Lincoln, RI) combined for 50 digs on defense, and Meghan Crozier (Ballston Spa, NY) came up with 24 assists.

The Lasers left the weekend tournament 0-3, and will look to collect their first win against Lesley University on Wednesday, September 10th on their home court.  First serve is 7:00 p.m.
