BROOKLINE, MA- Two major women's volleyball milestones were met by Lasell College athletes on Saturday in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) trimatch hosted by Pine Manor. Meghan Crozier (Ballston Spa, NY) reached 3,000 career assists and Jenna Lynn Geary (Marion, MA) notched 1,000 career digs in a 2-0 sweep of Pine Manor and Suffolk. The Lasers settled out the 2011 regular season with a 16-18 overall record and an 8-5 GNAC slate.
Both milestones were achieved in the second match of the day against Suffolk University. The Lasers defeated the Rams, 3-0, by set scores of 25-20, 25-22, and 25-14. Crozier reached her 3,000th assist first, and just three points later Geary was honored for her accomplishment. Crozier tallied 25 total helpers in the contest and added eight digs. Geary collected 11 digs in the victory.
Senior Danielle Drapeau (Biddeford, ME) also produced a team-best for the day with 16 kills, while swinging away for an impressive .625 clip. Sara Biondo (Coventry, RI) and Stella Edwards (Quincy, MA) added six and five kills respectively in the win.
Prior to that, Lasell had swept the Gators 25-23, 25-15, and 25-15 in the first match of the day. Crozier and Geary set up their record setting performances in the match against Pine Manor with Crozier dishing out 28 assists and Geary scouring the court for 11 digs. Drapeau came away with a near double-double putting down 12 kills and adding nine digs. Biondo helped out with eight digs and six kills and Edwards slammed down nine kills.
The Lasers finished the day in 7th place overall in the GNAC and will face off against 2nd place Rivier on Tuesday, November 1st. Lasell will travel to the Raiders home court for a 7:00 p.m. quarter final contest.
