FRANKLIN, Mass. – Junior Joe Sullivan (East Sandwich, Mass.) and senior Chris Maringo (Farmingville, N.Y.) had three hits each and combined for nine RBI Wednesday afternoon as Lasell College defeated Dean College, 14-11, in a non-conference baseball slugfest at the Longley Athletic Complex.
Sullivan had a two singles, a double and five RBI while Maringo had two singles, a double, four RBI and two runs scored to lead a 14-hit barrage for the Lasers. Senior David Marsell (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) had a pair of doubles and scored four runs and senior Zach Herring (Fresno, Calif.) added two hits as the Lasers improve to 16-13 on the season. Dean drops to 8-20.
Freshman Matt Bischof (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.) delivered a two-run single to put the Lasers on the board in the first inning, and Sullivan added an RBI single in the third as Lasell pulled ahead 3-1. The Lasers were forced to come from behind after the Bulldogs exploded for seven runs in the fourth inning, with the help of two Lasell errors, a passed ball and RBI singles by sophomore Jeff Sharnick (Stratford, Conn.), junior Andrew Dirito (Plymouth, Mass.) and freshman Daniel Anderson (Boston, Mass.).
Lasell got one run back in the fifth inning on a Sullivan RBI single, and tacked on four runs in the sixth inning to pull to within one run, 9-8. Sullivan and sophomore Wyatt Sihvonen (Lebanon, Conn.) had sacrifice flies in the rally and Maringo hit a two-run double.
The Lasers took the lead for good with three runs in the eighth inning and sealed the win with three more in the ninth. Maringo's RBI single and Sullivan's two-run double keyed the eighth inning rally, and senior Andre Marchesseault (Cheshire, Conn.) and Maringo had RBIs in the ninth.
Junior Patrick Colvin (Lenoxdale, Mass.) recorded the win in relief for the Lasers, allowing just one hit in two scoreless innings. Junior Chris O'Connor (Duxbury, Mass.) closed out the game to record his second save.
Lasell will play again on Thursday, April 18, with a non-conference match-up against Pine Manor College in Northborough, Mass. at 7 p.m. Dean hosts Coast Guard Thursday at 3 p.m.
