Senior Antonio Nesbitt is a four-year member of the Lasell College track and field team, who holds the school record in the 200M Dash, and the Long jump. This Springfield, Mass. native may actually spend more time running outside the athletic arena than in it.
Nesbitt is a Resident Advisor for Lasell College's Office of Residence Life, he serves as an assistant in the Office of Student Activities, he works as a Student Ambassador for the Office of Institutional Advancement, he serves as a Peer Mentor, and he holds the position of Director of Communications for the Lasell Environmental Action Force (L.E.A.F.) while maintaining a 3.42 grade point average in Criminal Justice with a Psychology minor.
In 2009, Antonio began working as a Peer Health educator at Lasell College, and using the tools he picked up as a part of that program he went a step further. He combined his passion for his academic field with skills he learned and began working with the Second Step program. In this capacity he meets with groups of young people twice a month, who have had their lives affected by domestic violence. By serving as a role model and helping plan and facilitate activities he is able to give back by helping provide a safe environment for them to learn and grow.
Each of the last three years, Antonio has given up his spring break to help organize and take part in Lasell's Alternative Spring Break program. He has been a part of service projects in Clark County, Nevada; Albuquerque, New Mexico; and Gulf Port, Mississippi to help provide assistance to those communities in need.
What attracted you to Lasell College?
What attracted me the most about Lasell was the sense of community that I felt as soon as I stepped foot here. Everyone was so welcoming, and always willing to lend a helping hand.
What do you hope to do after you graduate?
I plan to attend Graduate school immediately after graduation where I hope to receive my Masters in Higher Education from Boston University. After that I would like to earn a Doctorate in Psychology from another institution.
Has there been anything that has been a surprise to you about your experience at Lasell College?
Lasell never ceases to amaze me with its academic rigor, and connected learning philosophy. Each semester I feel as though I am being challenged in each of my classes and that’s all I could have asked for from a college.
Is there anything specific you have learned Lasell College that you think will help you after you have graduated?
Coming to Lasell has allowed me to become more open with myself, and with others. Working with people from all over the world, and people who come from all different backgrounds has allowed me to expand my comfort zone.
How have your experiences as an athlete added to the learning that has occurred during your time at Lasell?
Being a student athlete has provided me with a work ethic, and a sense of pride that I wouldn’t otherwise attain if I wasn’t involved with athletics. The intensity that I bring to my team, teammates, and individual events is the same intensity you will see me bring in the classroom or my workplace. I strive to be the VERY best at everything I do.
What was your best experience as a student-athlete at Lasell?
Probably breaking the individual records in the 55m, 200m, and long jump. It just goes to show that hard does pay off and how much harder I need to continue to improve.
