Head Volleyball Coach Mary Tom joined the Lasell College coaching staff in 1997, this year marking her 15th year with the Lasers.

After going 5-13 in her first season, Coach Tom has turned the women's volleyball program around, leading the Lasers to a 22-8 record in the 1999 season and a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Championship in 2000 and 2001.  She was named Coach of the Year by the NAC in 2004 and in 2010 she reached the impressive career milestone of her 200th NCAA win in a victory over Saint Joseph College of Connecticut on October 23rd

Tom is a graduate of Brandeis University where she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1997. She first matriculated into Brandeis in 1978, then returned after a 15 year hiatus and was granted eligibility to participate in the volleyball program under Mary Sullivan, the same coach she played for as an undergrad in 1978. She not only earned a starting position as a setter/outside hitter, but she was also voted captain by her teammates. Tom finished out her playing career by being named Most Valuable Player for the Brandeis team, in 1996.

In addition to coaching the Lasell women, Coach Tom is heavily involved with the Beantown Minutemen Boys Volleyball Program. In 2006, the Beantown Black 16's was the first New England Team to have ever won a bid to compete at the Open Division at the Jr. Olympics Boys Nationals, where the top elite 36 teams in the country competed in Minneapolis, MN.  The team continued their success by winning an open bid in 2007 as well as 2008.
