NEWTON, Mass. (9/9/17) – The Lasell women's volleyball team earned its first home victory in a 1-1 split against Eastern Nazarene and UMass Dartmouth in a Saturday afternoon tri match inside the Athletic Center.
The Lasers move to 3-4 overall, while Eastern Nazarene shifts to 3-5, and UMass Dartmouth takes home two victories at 3-2.
Lasell vs. UMD
The first match of the day went the distance, as the Corsairs down the Lasers in three sets by scores of 19-25, 24-26, 25-17, 25-17, and 15-17. Olivia Addington (Orange, Calif.) had a monster double-double with a match-high 22 kills (.263% swinging) and 11 digs for 22 points overall. Two other starters finished in double digits in points totals and kills, as Meredith Eagan (North Andover, Mass.) swung into 13 kills, two service aces, and a block assist for 15.5 points, while Michele Canestro (Castleton, N.Y.) contributed 11.5 points off 11 kills and a block assist. Defensively, Caitlyn Garcia (Moreno Valley, Calif.) hit the floor for 25 digs, followed by Canestro's impressive 19 digs. Taylor Tiezzi (Meriden, Conn.) served up all but three team assists in the effort, collecting 52 overall.
The Corsairs were led by Amanda LaCroix's 18 kills, 13 digs, and 20.5 overall points. Nicole Silverman registered 20 digs, while Jordan Rittberger dished out 29 assists.
UMD vs. Eastern Nazarene
In the neutral match, UMass Dartmouth needed four sets to overcome the Lions of Eastern Nazarene, and collected their second win of the day by scores of 25-16, 21-25, 26-24, and 25-19. LaCroix again steered the Corsairs to victory with 14 kills and a service ace for 15 points. Silverman's 11 kills and service ace was good for 12 points in the effort, while Alivia Connors finished with 11 points on seven kills and four service aces.
Courtney McCarthy and Jenna Meacham combined for 26 of the Lions' 36 team kills, McCarthy swinging into 16 and Meacham with 10. McCarthy was the team's point leader, as the sophomore additionally swung into a pair of service aces and jumped up for a block assist. Kayla Dean served up 33 assists as the Lions setter, and Meacham led the team in digs with 21.
Lasell vs. Eastern Nazarene
The Lasers took down the Lions in the only three-set match of the day by scores of 25-23, 25-12 and 25-21. Addington followed suit at Lasell's point leader, with 17 points from 17 kills and a .310 hitting percentage. Addington surpassed her teammates in total points by at least ten points, as freshman Mickayla Shelburn (Waterford, Conn.) finished next with 7.5 from seven kills and a block assist.
McCarthy was the lone Lion to finish in double digit kills, swinging into 11 of the team's 20. McCarthy and Meacham teamed up for 24 digs, as Kayla Dean served up 18 assists.
The Lasers embark on a four-game road stint for the next contest on Tuesday, September 12 when they head to Wentworth for a 7:00 p.m. start.
